5 Days Rwenzori Trekking to the Top of Weismann’s Peak via the Central Circuit Trail

Day 1: Arrival and Rwenzori Trek Preparations (Kasese to Nyakalengijja Trailhead & Nyabitaba Hut)

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet our Rwenzori trekking guide personnel and to board the safari 4×4 vehicles to Kasese. Enjoy a 9 hour road trip of through the villages with unique architectural buildings and vibrant market places that sell different agricultural produces. You will also witness the captivating rolling hills covered with verdant green trees and banana plants. On arrival in Kasese town you will get to enjoy a lunch buffet with some of the local cuisines at one of the restaurants of your choice in town.

Arrive at Mount Rwenzori national park and your safari guide will lead you towards the Nyakalengijja trail head at the foot base of Mount Rwenzori for briefing. You will be briefed about Rwenzori hiking experiences and the Rwenzori trekking routes you are about to take.

Begin your trek Rwenzori tours through the montane vegetation and the community farmlands and ascend through the tall elevated tree canopies. You will then cross the Mahoma River  that flows effortlessly through the valley. Witness the different wildlife species like the monkeys hoping from one tree to another and other unique Rwenzori birding species like white-starred robin.

After 8 km in about 4–5 hours of trekking Rwenzori, you’ll arrive at Nyabitaba hut (2,650m). Rest and prepare for the camping activities in the night and also get to set up your camping tent or sleeping bag. Enjoy a camping night in the middle of the wilderness as you get to hear distant wilderness noises. Enjoy a bush dinner as you interact with other tourists and rest for the night as you get reay to summint Weismann’s peak the following days.

Stay an overnight at the Nyabitaba hut.

Day 2: Trek Rwenzori from Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3,420m)

In the morning awaken with the distinctive  beautiful chatters of the birds such as the golden-winged sunbird at Nyabitaba hut. Enjoy a mouthwatering African warm breakfast prepared by the hospitable staff at Nyabitaba hut. Our Rwenzori expert guide briefs you as you prepare your trekking gear for the second day of Weismann’s peak Rwenzori trek.

Join your Rwenzori trekking group as you go through the  bamboo trees and ascend gradually on the steep rocky landscapes. Witness the bushbucks  roaming through the forest in search of food and shelter.Also, you will get to spot  monkeys swinging from tree to tree as they socialize and forage for food. You will then pass the Kurt Shafer Bridge over River Mubuku. Next, proceed through the tall green thick trees. You will then proceed to Kalalama rock where you will get to enjoy your snack picnic as you enjoy scenic views of the shining glaciers of the Mount Stanley peaks.

You will then ascend through the alpine landscape and the thick lushly vegetation as you look out for unique alkaline plants like giant heathers and lobelias. After a challenging 10km Rwenzori hike tour in 5 to 6 hours through the rocky outcrops you will then arrive at John Matte hut .It’s situated at an altitude of 3,420 meters. You will then have diner and rest at the hut for the night.

Day 3: Trek Rwenzori tours from John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut (3,962m)

Wake up in  the morning and get to enjoy a bush morning breakfast and prepare for the Rwenzori trekking tour to Weismann’s Peak. Next, begin your 8 km Rwenzori trekking from John Matte Hut in 5 hours to Bujuku hut. Pass through the giant groundsels and mosses to the steep rocky terrain landscape. Follow the Central Circuit trail and witness  different unique bird species like the Rwenzori turacos  and lammergeyers.

Stop at the upper bigo bog, a photographer’s paradise with stunning views and get to rest and feast on snacks and refreshments. See panoramic views of Mt Baker peak and catch glimpses of Lake Bujuku, a breathtaking glacial lake situated in the mountains. You can take this opportunity to take pictures of surrounding captivating eco systems and landscapes to create unforgettable adventure memories.

You will then proceed your journey up the mountain to Bujuku hut (3,962m) tatt is situated in the valley in between Mount Stanley and Mount Speke and take time to refresh, enjoy dinner and stay for the night.

Day 4: Ascent to Weismann’s Peak and Return to Bujuku Hut (4,620m)

Wake up very early in the morning (4:00am) and enjoy breakfast and then you start on the preparations to Weismann’s peak. You will then proceed through the swampy vegetation of the mosses, lichens and wildflowers and  through the slippery rocky outcrops.  Ascend the landscape steepens which makes this 5 day Rwenzori trekking Weismann’s Peak summit challenging but adventurous. The Central circuit trail to the Weismann’s peak involves a series of  rocky ridges  and rocky outcrops. Witness the giant lobelia which is a unique remarkable plant species with long, narrow waxy leaves that only grows on the high attitudes of Mount Rwenzori.

You will then rest at the alpine meadow zone just below the Weismann’s peak. Enjoy snacks and refreshments as you get to witness other unique plant species like giant groundsels. Others include Cardus rwenzoriensis and Luzula Rwenzoriensis. You will also get to spot the rolling, grassy hills of the alpine meadow zone. Also, the mall alpine lakes situated in the valley and the glistening Rwenzori glaciers.

Get exposed to a glacial landscape as the vegetation that was once dense becomes sparsely distributed and is replaced by rocks and boulders. This is where the Rwenzori mountains hiking becomes more thrilling as you get to navigate through the narrow ridges. Finally, arrive at the Weismann’s peak and get to enjoy this rewarding experience.Observe stunning  panoramic views of the  Albertine rift valley, alpine lakes and the Rwenzori glaciers. Also view peaks like the Mount Stanley and Mount Speke.

 Lastly, Head back to Bujuku hut and enjoy a camping night and bush diner. Gaze at the stars and then stay over the hut for night. Also, reminisce of the adventures of this 5 days Rwenzori trekking Weismann’s peak summit day.

Day 5: Descent from Bujuku Hut to Nyakalengijja Trailhead and Departure

On this final day of the Rwenzori ttrekking Weismann’s Peak itinerary,wake up and savor on the delicious warm made local breakfast.  You will be briefed by your Rwenzori expert guide guide then prepare for the descending journey back to the foot base  of Mount Rwenzori. Begin the Rwenzori mountains trekking from Bujukku hut and then descend downwards through the moorland zone.

You will then stop at   Guy Yeoman hut and enjoy a meal or snacks and refreshments as you enjoy the stunning views of the landscapes. Next, head back to Nyakalegijja trailhead. You will then proceed trekking Rwenzori through the  bamboo zone to the thick green trees of the montane forest as you take short breaks. Rehydrate and then finally you will pass via Nyabitaba hut. So, proceed to the trailhead and this will be the end of this 5 Days Rwenzori Trekking to the Top of Weismann Peak itinerary.

On arrival you can decide to eat back to Entebbe International airport. You can also decide to stay and enjoy other leisure activities like cultural exploration, boat ride and nature walks.
